Focus on how your postures look or focus on how much you can stretch your body maximum or your mind just keep getting distracted during the yoga class ?
We probably all know that focusing on your breath and mind is the most important. Today we will talk about what we can do to obtain all the benefits when you are taking yoga class.
What is the most effective way to obtain benefits from yoga practice?
When your mind is focused on your postures, you must feel some sensations such as a good stretching sensation, comfort, minor pain, agitation or could be some emotions such as sadness, anger, fear or joy, I have seen some of my students quietly crying during the final resting pose (savasana) and it happened to me as well. It's a emotional release and process of purification in yoga. If that happens, it's normal to feel those sensations and emotions during yoga as your heart and body are asking you to release those emotions you've been holding in for a long time.
How do we manage when we face those emotions and sensations during yoga?
What you need to do is just to observe your sensations and emotions instead of reacting to it. "I feel sad now..but it is okay I will just observe this feeling..I will not get involve into the emotions."
It is like you are watching other person is been sad. This is a practice of detachment. And as you practice this more, you will be able to observe your sensations and emotions without reacting to it and you will be emotionally, mentally much more stable.
Yoga is your own practice, It is doesn't matter if you are practicing at home or in a big yoga class surrounded by many people, do not worry about how other person next to you or in front of you doing, your focus is on your breathing and mind.
It's the most important thing when you practice yoga.
